April 26-28
Sorry about the time delay.
The day after the regatta ended we took the big boat and
Pearl’s crew down to the south end of the island to o snorkeling. This was the
best so far. There were white sand paths around huge gardens of coral. Fan
corals as tall as me were floating around and the fish were beautiful. We even
found a spot thatched beds laid out as if they were trying to grow coral for transplanting.
We must have been in the water for about 2 hours. We went back around 1 pm and went over to
hear Cordell talk. He had a friend there who was in one of the ships that the
Cubans shot at …missed that part. We talked for a bit and then I played
volleyball.
Seems that between the volleyball and the snorkeling [I
sucked in a lungful of salt water] I developed a “cold” coughing and tight chest.
I got some cough medicine but if it doesn’t feel better by Friday I will go to
the clinic when the doctor gets here.
Amazing Grace and Flamingo left yesterday. I wonder how far
they got before the storm hit? We had a wicked thunderstorm last night … but
short. It sure felt good.
We had taken the dinghy out and around the shore to look at the
south end of the town where all the rich people live [huge Florida-style houses
sitting on top of one another] big columns and coloured stucco. We went under the Crab Cay Bridge to the bay
called Red Shanks. And looked for the turtles that live there… no luck, so we
came home. Rick decided that we should
close all the hatches since there was heat lightening in the distance, and no
sooner did he get the shut than it started to pour. He unhooked all the
electronics. Of course, we have a shorter mast than anyone else in the harbour
so odds were we wouldn’t get hit, but it never hurts to be cautious.
This morning the clouds are rolling across from the west. If
it stays cloudy, I will get the side decks ready to paint. Tomorrow we are
going to rent a scooter and ride up to Emerald Bay so we can watch the commissioning
of the new Navy Ship, and explore the other end of the island.
Today we will re-provision and get ready to leave Georgetown
as soon as the weather looks good. We are going up to Allen’s cay to watch/help
with the Iguana tagging around the 12th of May. After that we will
be heading up to the Abacos and Nipper’s to show off the Smethurst kids to
Geoff’s family friends. We expect to have the boat back in Florida by June so
we can haul and maintain, then back to Canada for a visit.
So I suspect that the next few weeks will be more boring
pictures of paradise, assuming I can figure out why I CANNOT upload photos here any more. Its not the computer because I can upload them on face book. and I've tried circumventing the upload to copy and paste but nothing works! I have a few more things to try but for now....
Pictures do NOT show well with copy and paste. Rats!
