Friday October 17
afternoon
Barb and I went to
the Laundromat and got the laundry done fairly quickly. Dan and Rick waited at
the boat. When we got back nothing was happening so we went for a walk to the
post office and picked up some post cards. We wandered through downtown, and
Barb was re-orienting herself to what she remembered of Trenton. Then we
stopped at the Grind Cafe f
As we cut through
the parking lot Barb saw a Discount truck pull in. We walked up as he was
parking and I saw parcels in his front seat, so I accosted him and sure enough,
he had our package! I waved frantically at the boat and Rick came running with
the confirmation number.
We had lunch and
then watch Rick start to assemble the coupler. There wasn’t much we could do to
help, so he sent us off to find a truck parts place to get extra hydraulic
hoses and ferrules [remember those...the little buggers that blew our first day
in Lake Superior.] We didn’t really need
them yet, but I got 12 feet of hose and 11 ferrules. Now we probably will never
need them but for 23 bucks it’s cheap insurance!
Dan’s GPS took us
directly to two places that no longer existed...name at the entrance bit
building boarded up. So we drove towards Belleville and he found a
Freightliner/ Western parts depot that had exactly what we were looking for. ON
the way back we went to the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial at the base. It’s
a beautiful set of sculptures.
When we came back
Rick said we missed Mike. He had stopped by to check on us but he was taking
his oldest son to a hockey game for his birthday, and we would probably see him
tomorrow. Rick had almost finished the
set up and after he dropped the last nut and washer into the bilge [not on
purpose], we went to Boston pizza for dinner.
Wild crowd in there... too noisy for my liking but the food was good. I
actually ate pizza [GF of course]
Dan and Barb dropped us off at the boat and we
said a teary goodbye...ok, really, would you expect anything less? C’mon, it’s
Barb and me...we bawled our way through Ted’s and Jack’s weddings; and we didn’t
understand half of Ted’s because it was in Finn!
Of course, throughout
the day it rained on and off but we didn’t get the gusty winds so maybe we’ll
be lucky tomorrow and everything will fall into place, so we can leave before
it snows.
So tomorrow is
test day after we [Rick] retrieves the nut and washer. I think we should keep
Mike on board for the test run. That way everything will work and we’ll have to
bring him back to the dock before we can leave.
Will let you know
what happens tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed and maybe we should try that
communal wish thing again! Let’s try to be
more specific this time: let’s all hope/ wish / pray that the OtherGoose has no
more issues until it gets to warm salty water! We’d appreciate the effort!
