February
16-17
The
last two days were exhausting. It’s about 80 miles to Miami from here...about
2-2 ½ hours but on 4-6 lane highways, and the speed limit is 120! Not so bad when you know where you. Joseph was
directing from the back seat, the GPS was talking and Rick was reading the road
signs so I had three different voices directing me! I had to drive because Rick’s
license was expired and until he gets his new one from Ontario he can’t drive.
Okay,
so Miami is a zoo; but a crazy, funny, funky people, funky clothes, amazing
artists and musicians, multi-languages, hordes of rich, really poor, crazy
drivers, stupid drivers and dumb tourists, awesome zoo. And not one you want to be in for very long. We
saw two Quebec licenses plates in traffic, both of them rudely honking at our
tour bus that was trapped in traffic at rush hour. There are so many theatrical places and... do
I sound like a hick?? It’s a very cosmopolitan
city and it was fun, even if we only saw a part of it.
The
boats were fantastic and after looking at all the catamarans, we decided that
we still like ours the best!
We
spent yesterday running around with Mark and Gail looking for other things we didn’t see at the boat
show. We went back up to Fort Pierce to the Marine barn for a second look,
and other stores that Rick needed to
see. The Hobby Lobby was a disappointment; it was more like Michael’s and
hadn’t much of what he considered ‘hobbies’ ...trains, boats and other models.
Wednesday
morning: it rained all night. We were expecting it. The temperature plummeted from
85 down to 75. Wow, eh? Today will be ‘cold’ according to the weather
forecast...only mid 70’s and tomorrow even colder...high 60’s. [Gee, I can
hardly stand it!] Then it will go back
up.
We
are going to head out in the next couple of days. This is a wonderful place but
we don’t want to overstay our welcome. The owner is exceptional and his staff
is great as well.
FYI: THIS may not be a daily post from NOW oN. Our hotspot will
NOT work in the islands, so we will be relying on internet cafe’s and marina
wireless [except we avoid marinas whenever possible.] We are not going to ‘refill’ it right now because we will lose any
extra data on it as soon as we go offshore , and it’s a $100.00 a month to fill
it up. We do however have a global phone now, so we can call from anywhere in
the world except the Southern Ocean [not an issue]. This means that we can
contact someone [at a dollar a minute U.S.] who will let everyone else know
what we are doing. But I can’t access Facebook, so you will all have to read
the blog. I think I can get to that to post.
Here
are some pics from the last few days. Enjoy your day, whatever you are doing!
Really???Do you need to get to the 60 miles to the Bahamas in 15 minutes??? |
Big Cats, Big bucks, nor more storage than we have |
This harbour tourist area was really fun |
This was only the sailboat area. The power boats had their own harbour. |
Cool statue... don't now what it's for. |

Hi Sue, Gill and I have been to that statue with the up reaching hand. Surprisingly, it's a Holocaust memorial. It sits in a Jewish neighborhood.
