Ok, so I forgot to
tell you about the tour...it took 1.5 hours to do the whole day tour and you
could get off wherever you wanted and get back on when the next train came
by... about every 20 minutes, so we did the whole tour, stayed on the train and
got off when we got back to the centre of the old town. Unfortunately, when we
got off, we left Rick’s I-Pad on the bus and didn’t realize it until about an
hour later. He went back out to the train stop and caught the next train driver
who called all the other drivers on the train route. Someone found it and
turned it in to the office and it was there when we got back!
On the first
go-round, Smokey was the commentator and was very funny. The crew changed when
we stayed on and Mike was our driver the next time. Both told us different
things about the things we were seeing so we got tons of information!
When we went to
catch the train back to the office, Smokey was driving one of the trains. He
said he had a special group he was delivering but we could take the first seat
in the first car and he would OK it.
After he dropped off his group, he took us back to the terminal. We
talked and he asked where we were from, how we got here, how long we were
staying:
Rick: Ontario,
Canada, we came by boat... been in SC for a while and heading further south
Dan: we drove down
from Ontario, been in south west Florida for awhile and heading home. We all
met here.
His reaction was
hilarious! “You all just met here? That’s amazing! Wow you Canadians are REALLY
FRIENDLY people!”
Barb set him
straight after we all stopped laughing: “We’re sisters...we’re all family!”
So, today we woke
up to stormy weather. We are anchored at the Fort and it is supposed to clear
up by noon but the winds are still high. It is stormy out on the ocean so we
are glad we are in the river, although the ocean is about a half mile away and
we are sitting in the inlet so it might not be so bad back down the river
away.
At 2:00 it was
sunny and much warmer so we took off the rain gear. I have been watching the
water temperature and it is now up to 14.8C degrees. AWESOME!
We have been
traveling through so many areas that are super rich with mega mansions, and
then some trailer parks and some condos. Right now we are going through Ormond-by-the-Sea
and we will be anchoring on Daytona Beach tonight. We are trying to get as
close to Titusville as possible because on Feb 8 there is a LAUNCH AT
CANAVERAL!!! I will get to see a rocket
go up !!!!! Woohoo!!! This has been on my bucket list before I even knew what
that was! The only thing that can top that is being IN the rocket ship!
So it’s 5:00 pm
and we are anchored at downtown Daytona Beach.
It’s still quite windy and we are facing north...tide and wind working together.
This stretch of the ICW is called the Halifax River. We passed a house on shore
flying a Canadian Flag but were going too fast to take a picture of it...hahahaha.
Mark and Gail are
still at the Palm Coast Resort Marina (I can’t imagine what we missed!) but
they will catch up in the next couple of days because we are all looking
forward to the launch! Then on to Indiantown to meet up with Joseph, fix our
windlass (don’t ask!!) and see whether or not we need to dismantle the drive or
if we fixed the problem!
Enjoy the pics! ttyl
