Our pelican |
Dock we couldn't land on |
s morning was another clear sunny morning Unfortunately, it was also 0degreesC. There was no ice on the deck because salt water has a lower freezing temperature than fresh water...it just gets slushy.
We
left the anchorage at 8:45 and headed down the South Edisto River. We only went
a couple of miles and turned down into a shortcut to the next river, the
Ashepoo River. It was another river that is a wildlife refuge and has no accessible
shoreline. It’s hard to describe how beautiful
the area is. The low country is covered with palmetto palms, which is why South
Carolina is called Palmetto country. The
forestry service apparently burns off the low country every year to get rid of
the build up of ground cover like palm fronds and grasses, to prevent major
wildfires and that’s what we were watching yesterday.
Today
we had a pelican stalking is for awhile. I think it was hoping we would stir up
some fish as we sailed through the rivers. He gave up after about a mile
because the dolphins were stirring up more fish than we were.
We
traveled 30 miles today and arrived at the destination marina. It has a lot of
amenities that we can use and some people who help fix things. We have some work to do that we can complete
here, and we can do some sight- seeing in this beautiful city. We have also
been invited to stay [not for free] at the marina for a bonfire party on Saturday
night.
Tonight
we went for dinner at a place called the “Fillin’ Station” ... an old garage turned
into a bar with a pool table, outside kitchen and the special tonight was green
beans, corn, scalloped potatoes and two HUGE pork chops for $5.00. Unfortunately
the pork chops were breaded, and the potatoes were from a box so I had to order
an extra separate dinner with unbreaded chops and no potatoes.
Tonight
we are going to bed early and tomorrow we will see how much we can get done.
And then we can PAR-TAY!
