Wednesday Oct.15

Wednesday October 15

Got the word... parts were shipped yesterday! Should be here by Friday! Yeehaw! Rick checked the tracking number and at noon our time, they were at the shipping depot in East Midlands being put on a plane.

Today it’s raining. So what did we do? We walked to Home Hardware [about 5 blocks]to get a strip of trim for the galley shelf, a drill mandrill for Rick’s drill and a 4x4 sheet of Baltic birch plywood. They were kind enough to cut it in half so each piece only weighed 40 lbs. and we walked back carrying it in the rain.

What do we need it for, you ask? Well, we need a step in the cockpit because it’s too far down to step safely. The plastic steps stools tend to slip and the wooden step will also serve to be a storage place for the flares, extra shoes/sandals. The cockpit floor is being replaced and this will kill two birds with one stone. Of course, we only needed half the plywood but they wouldn’t sell half of it and it “was a lot cheaper than HH in Owen Sound.”

Mike came by at lunch time. He says tomorrow he will take us for lunch at the mess, if we don’t have to wait for parts to show up.

I finally got the head organized today. Boy, do we have a lot of crap that we didn’t throw out! Soggy band-aids, old vitamin, hotel soaps...GONE! I put a fiddle on the galley cupboard so stuff won’t fall off the shelf under the sink.

Rick got the steps built and the vents for the motor compartment finished despite the rain. It’s 8 pm and we have finished the dishes, sucked the spiders out of the cockpit and we are going to have tea and watch a movie. Our TV antenna works but there’s no off-cable stations here that we can pick up. But anyone who knows us well, knows that we have hundreds of movies! We also have a new stereo that Rick bought through the store a couple of years ago. It has a USB port and we have ALL of our favourite on flash drives. It’s amazing what I can get done get when I listen to my favourite music – like 4 hours of Chris deBurgh!

By the way, the Parks Canada work barge has been screaming up and down the river here. I guess the rues about NO WAKE don’t apply to the government workers. Rick took a picture of their wake today. Think we’ll send it to theMinstry of Tourism.

So now the parts have departed East Midlands at 2217 England time. Exciting!
We’ll keep you posted!
