April 11-13

April 11 cont’d

I managed to get some research done before my computer died on me... no place to plug in. I will go back to town tomorrow when the internet is up and running and I am not distracted by the TV in the restaurant or the people coming in and out – it will be closed. Then maybe I can get some serious work done.

It wouldn’t have taken so long but the only place we haven’t tried yet had a $3.00 breakfast advertised and finally we asked and everyone said it was good. SO we went over there this morning, after the Cruiser’s net. So the Net takes from 8-8:30 and then we have to get into the dinghy and go for a 20 minute ride without getting soaked; park the dinghy and walk probably the equivalent of three city blocks [or to the school in Hepworth from Liz’ house]. Granted that’s not a long way but when everyone wants to stop and talk,

We left the dinghies down on the beach tied to that tree

we are waaaaay out there. Buildings are Chat'nChill

This is Monument
it takes awhile. Today when we got there, a line had formed and people were looking through the windows...not open today although the sign said it should be. SO we waited. Everyone was using internet thee but apparently the woman in charge puts the code it and no-one could remember what it was.  There was a kid sitting at the table eating a piece of cake who told us about another really good cafe up the road. I asked him if it was so good why was he eating a piece of cake for breakfast. He laughed and said, “It’s only to put somet’ing in the belly for now.’ Then I realized that he got it from the HBG lady. I would have preferred that too!!!

So we that's when we met and talked to Kim, and then we headed up to the cafe they both recommended. Well today was Bahamian breakfast...grouper stew; tuna salad; sausage stew with rice and peas... and other equally unappetizing breakfast fare. I couldn’t do that or breakfast, especially having waited that long. By now it was 10 am. So we went to the Peace and Plenty where we knew we could get some tourist and  breakfast and iffy internet.  My breakfast was farmer’s omelette and grits. Rick had pancakes as usual and sausages.  They were small and made from a box. Serves him right for not eating healthy. The first pot of coffee was good; the second was awful. I think they wanted us to leave so they could talk.

We walked to the grocery store and got some vegetables and stuff. Rick took it back to the boat and I walked up to the other end of town to Eddie’s where the internet was great and that’s where we should have gone in the first place. BY the time I got finished [i.e. the computer died on me] it was after 1 and wandered around d a bit looking for postcards and stamps and a bit more stuff then decided to come back to the boat.

What an awful ride back... we got soaked because the waves were higher than when we went in and we were driving into them. Good thing the water is bathtub warm here. So I got zero done today. Oh, well, I guess there’s always tomorrow. I need to do some laundry and serious clean up. We still have Ross’s generator and are almost finished charging up the batteries. The real test will be to see how long they stay charged.

So much for working today! We got a call to go hiking up to the monument with Amazing Grace and Jasmine City and Nauti-Wings [a plane!!] Stefan picked us up in his dinghy [a mega-dinghy] and we all went over to Monument Bach. There is a great stone pillar at the top. It has nothing on it but it’s the highest point of and around. We got to the top [ of the wrong peak!] so Cheryl and I stayed there while the rest trooped over to the other one. ON the way back they took a wrong path so we were abandoned at the top until Ross came to rescue us.  The three of us walked down the mountain and when we got to the fork, Cheryl went left to the ocean to catch the rest of them. Ross and I walked back to the dinghies. The crew were already there!!Ross and I fell into the water and the rest discussed whether or not someone should go get Cheryl. Her spouse decided that she would be along soon.

Stephan, Jamie and Jules [the plane people] were going kite-boarding so we went back to the boats with them since our dinghy was attached to Jasmine City. Cheryl turned up and Chat’n Chill. She had followed the wrong crowd when she got to the beach and then she lost them so she walked awhile, swam the lagoon, found another beach and ended up at home. We played dominoes for the afternoon, found some patching stuff for Stephan to fix his dinghy and gave Cordell some tools off the boat [yay!]
PEARL [Bruce and Gayleen] arrived so we spent some time talking with them and then went home for dinner. And crashed!

This is Rake and Scrape night! Woohoo! I had to arrange for the taxi this time...no-one else wanted to volunteer. So we have 25 people so far going over to Eddie’s tonight for another good time!

Talk to you later!
