February 11

February 11, 2015

Another good day! We didn’t have quite the wind we needed but we sailed anyway as soon as we got out in the open river. We managed 3.5 to 5 knots for most of the day. I did most of the sailing and Rick baked cookies!!

We came through Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie, where there had to be 75 dinghies racing around the harbour. They kept falling over and I was afraid I was going to run over them.

So we saw the usual dolphins, pelicans, bridges and stupid boaters.

We were going to look for another anchorage but the winds started to kick up and we found a free marina with showers!!! So we headed up the Okeechobee River to the Meridian Marina and Yacht club. Unfortunately it was 8 miles up the river and those winds that pushed us down the Indian River were now trying to hold us back, so we landed on the dock at 1 minute after 6 pm. And guess what? While we were tying up the rocket was launched!!! And I missed it! All I got were these shots of something that was so far away you can hardly tell it was a rocket! Rats!!!

But the shower was awesome and the night is warm. We are south of the cold front and the water is now 19C...still not swimming weather but here it is starting to turn turquoise!  We passed a coconut floating down the river... another first!

So today’s pics...

Leaving Vero Beach

First working barge we've seen in a long time

River water meeting ocean water

Fort Pierce nuclear plant

These wires from the plant were supposed to be 90 feet above the water, They felt a lot loser than that going under them!

Not a bird, not a plane... the rocket

Really ! the rocket!
