February Friday 13th

February 13, Friday

Not for us!!! Today was 85F here and the sun was blistering! We putzed around doing chores, read a lot, and cleaned the front deck. Mostly we tried to rent a car to go to the boat show. It’s not like we need to go but it’s another experience, like going to watch a rocket launch! One of the seminars is called ‘HOW TO BUY A USE CATAMARAN WITHOUT MAKING COSTLY MISTAKES.  Gail & Mark have heard this guy, but I would like to know that we didn’t! lol There is also stuff about single side band [ham] radios that we need to know to be able to make ours work better and other interesting stuff!

So there wasn’t much available in cars. We choked when Enterprise wanted $78.00 a day and no weekend special! Of course it’s Valentine’s day tomorrow and President’s Day Monday. I guess everyone here rents cars for holidays instead of driving their own. Didn’t this country invent the car? I thought everyone here had at least one!

So Avis has one for $38.00/ day, probably taxes added and insurance and by the time the money gets converted it will probably be $78.00 but at least it won’t start at $78.00!!

We didn’t do much of anything today. C-Soul arrived at 12:30 and we helped them dock.  Rick got the depth gauge hooked up for the starboard bow. Now we have one at opposite corners...nice to know your depth before you run aground instead of after.

We packed away the winter gear. I think we’re safe ... the average temp this week is going to be 75 and the night time temp is around 40. I don’t bother converting anymore, just know that 75 is really warm and 40 is not cold!

I was talking with the workers in the shop today. There are 180 boats in there. There are no slips, only temporary ones so when a boater bring his boat back at night, it is picked up, cleaned out, coolers emptied, washed off and stored on his rack, or if he brings it back at night it sits in the slip until morning when they put it away. When he wants it out, he calls, and they launch, fuel and “ice” it for him so it is ready when he gets to the marina ... FOR $100.00 a month!!!! for the first 6 months, then for $12.00/foot. What great service!!!

The owner is adding another piece to the front of the building: a fifty foot glass wall showroom and storage with temperature control?!?!

On summer weekends he puts up a megatron screen, shows Disney movies and people can anchor in front to watch or come to the lawns. He has popcorn and pop for the kids and adult drinks for the adults. He wants this to be a family-friendly marina.

SO pics are of hanging out here today, but we loved watching them work!!! Today they ifted a beautifull 34 foot Nordic Tug weighing 18000 lbs with that fork lift!
