March 5

March 5, 2015

OK guys, this is it... tomorrow at 4 am w are hauling up the anchor and heading across to the Bahamas. There will be no winds to speak of until around noon, so at about 4-5 knots it will take 12 hours which means we will get there around 4-5 pm before we drop anchor somewhere.

We have activated our satellite phone so we do have communication. We also have a Florida address now so we can a Florida driver’s license and other good stuff.

We met some new Canadian boater today, Tom and Julie from Toronto! They trailered their McGregor down and have been traveling the keys but they have to go home soon.

Hopefully we can use the internet in cafés to post but we will do our best to keep in touch.

Today we went swimming, cleaned the boat bottom, finished the chores and then went for an hour long walk to the post office and back. The vegetation here is very cool. Stranger figs [Quentin’s favourite trees] are everywhere and the small plants are cool too. It must be awesome in summer. This park is pretty nice too!

We had dinner at the restaurant here. Rick had rice and fish (mahi-mahi) and key lime pie and I had chicken Caesar salad and chocolate mousse. We shared the salad and the rice and fish but I couldn’t have the pie. Everything was good except the chocolate mousse. I think it was Eagle Brand milk with cocoa mixed in. My god, it was sweet and rich. I think I need to double up my Metformin tonight!  My mother used to eat that stuff with a spoon!

We will sorely miss our good friends and traveling companions of the last 4 months, Gail and Mark. Fair wind and a following sea,C-Soul and we will meet up in the Bahamas. Will miss seeing you pass us every day!
