Saturday Nov 22oas

Saturday Nov 22

Well, we did it! We went 35 miles today and are now in Oriental NC. It was a quiet passage, with only a few boats passing us. C-Soul stopped at a fish market so were able to keep closer to them than normal. We managed to stay over 5 knots today. There was a bit of wind so we could motor sail for awhile. When we got closer to Oriental there were a lot of sailboats popping up all over the place.  I suspect everyone was heading for a refuge from the impending storm tomorrow.

We are at the free town dock, where you can get an endless hot shower for $5.00. There is an outdoor tiki bar, and somewhere up the street there will be live entertainment at a coffee shop. So we are going out with Mark and Gail again tonight to check out the town.

We are on the inside of the harbour and there is a great big red Shrimp boat called Master Braxton blocking our view of the Pamlico Sound, which suits me just fine because tomorrow there will be gale force winds, a tremendous thunderstorm and 12 foot seas out on the ocean, so we know we are not going anywhere tomorrow and maybe not Monday either. We probably could cross the narrow portion of the Sound in the morning, but then we’d be at anchor somewhere and there’s no telling how the winds would affect us in the canal.

Tomorrow I can do laundry and catch up with the cleaning and organizing. There is no rush to get anywhere in particular and I am resigned to the act that there will be warm weather eventually someplace sometime...
And tomorrow is supposed to be 70 degrees again, which is why the thunderstorms! And as long as there are no tornadoes I’m good with that!

We had so much fun at dinner we never got anywhere else. But tomorrow when all our chores are done and it’s raining we are planning to do something like watch a movie and eat popcorn.
