Tuesday update

Tuesday update

We made it to the Remembrance Day service and it was strange not to hear our own National anthem. It was also hard to keep my hands down and not salute!
The speaker was a retired military CPO and it was a very American ceremony. WE didn’t get to talk to anyone. I think they all recognized us as strangers though. This town is about the size of Wiarton. The main street is very much like Wiarton, except that there are a lot of American flags hanging from every building!

I found Meryl Streep’s jewellery store! It was awesome. I spent a long time talking to the lady working in the shop. She works with the artist and learned the trade, but she spent 32 years as an Art teacher [an activist for good schooling] in Virginia public and high schools. She makes bracelets from fish skin, pendants and necklaces from orchids grown locally, and other jewellery from local stones and other material. Wow! The artist won an Art grant and an Entrepreneurial grant and now has other shops wanting to sell her jewellery (even Costco)! If you are curious google [there’s that verb again!] moonrisejewelry.com

So we tried to get out at noon, but the wind and waves were just ugly, and the visibility was one mile. There was no way we’d make it before dark, so we are going to get up at daybreak tomorrow and head south east to Norfolk before the weather builds. We already arranged to rent a car to drive to Deltaville. It’s only 68 miles and it will be a nice change from the water!

So until tomorrow... and this is our Todd today in Wiarton!

Thanks Sue and Rick for bringing back great memories; and what kind of sailors are you if you haven't run aground yet??!!

HI there! You missed it. We went aground in Long Point on the south side of Prince Edward Bay, while waiting to cross Lake Ontario. But we just dot of drifted aground as we swung n the wind. We made up for it by scratching the $#@*^ out of the paint both sides on various docks in bad weather! Will be painting in Florida!
