Tuesday Nov 18

Tuesday, Nov 18

Today was a slow day. We woke up and watched a bit of news to see if the weather reports had changed any. The night on the dock was a lot calmer than we had expected...maybe because we were protected in the bay. Looking out over the wider part of the river, we could see the “elephants dancing”, as it was described by one boater.

After breakfast we looked on the Internet for a close hotel/motel. Rick didn’t want to leave the boat unattended but it was going to be too cold tonight to sleep here. I was feeling miserable, mostly because it didn’t seem that we would ever reach the warm weather. I walked down the dock to see Gail and tripped over a power cord. What??? There is power here??? And I froze last night because we couldn’t plug in!?!?!

So instead of getting a hotel, we rented a car and went shopping for the things we needed. Gail and Mark came with us and w we had a fun day! We had a really late lunch/ early supper at the Golden Corral very similar to “The Market” in Barrie. We got shopping done and were able to take the car back at 6 pm.

Wyatt arrived this afternoon with his people. We will be seeing him tomorrow because we bought their spinnaker pole from them. We can use it as an extra boom to get the dinghy up onto the deck and stop dragging it behind. It does slow us down a bit specially with a headwind.

Another HUGE trawler pulled in today and squeezed in between the dock and Makana, the big cat that was beside us up river! It’s heading south as well.

So we are ready to head out tomorrow, cross the Albemarle Sound and expect to anchor in the Little Alligator River tomorrow. One of the things we bought today was a propane heater, so when we are anchored, we can still have heat on the boat at night. Hopefully this means that we will be in the warm area soon so we can pack it away in the storage area and not need it!
