Saturday
OK, so we paid the
bill today and we are leaving tomorrow, depending on the winds. Today the
bridge would not open because of sustained winds, so the sailboat that left
this morning spent most of the day circling in the river. Finally he came back
in here. If the winds are sustained at more than 30 mph bridges will not open.
And we definitely had those winds today!
We walked up to
the grocery store for last minute stuff and Rick got one of those “tens” for
his back. It’s a little device that sends electrical impulses to the muscles.
He says it works so we are starting at the low settings.
The walk to the
grocery store is about a half mile, so it’s not a big deal. We took our time
and the walk helped his back a bit as well. Everything is stowed away and we
only have to fill the water tank tomorrow morning. We are not in a rush...we
just need to get away from the dock. The people here are wonderful and it really
does feel like we are leaving home.
We are thinking
that we might just leave the boat here in the spring and after we visit for a
couple of weeks, we will go get the kids and bring them back here for the summer!
It really is a great place to spend time. We can sail up and down the river and
take them out on the ocean for fishing or swimming. Apparently, lots of people
bring their grandkids here for visits.
So tomorrow will
be our last Huddle House breakfast. Last night was our last “Steak night”, oh,
and while we were waiting, we met this young woman who teaches English at the
high school across the road from the marina. She is from Alabama, but moved here
to teach. She also teaches a creative writing class. Of course, I would meet her on the last night we are
here! We could have talked about so much stuff!! And we didn’t even get their
names! Rats! [So if you are reading this blog, please comment and tell me your
name!]
Tomorrow will be
our last really hot shower for awhile as well. And we have to disconnect the cable TV, too!
We have been spoiled here!
So, time for bed.
